ABOUT HER
Sara Sepulveda is a Spanish visual artist who lives and works in Basel.
After receiving her degree in architecture, in Valencia and Rome, Sara got her master’s degree in Cultural Management. Since then, she has participated in many artistic and interdisciplinary workshops in Italy, France, Switzerland and Denmark. Before becoming a professional artist, Sara also learned several techniques like cold wax medium or engraving, participated in land art projects, and wrote award-winning poems.
Her work has been exhibited in several galleries and shown at important international fairs like Volta Basel. She is represented by galleries in Basel, Zug and Austin and her paintings are mostly located in European and American collections.
ABOUT HER WORK
The work of Sara Sepulveda focuses on the interior topography of our feelings, memories and soul and the poetic language of abstraction.
Her landscapes and reflections express a reduction of the reality to an emotion using the voice of colors, the sensibility of textures and the changing beauty of light. They represent the structure, geometry and harmony of Nature and symbolize outside or interior places where viewers build upon the visual architecture of their own feeling and memories.
In her creative process, she uses the transparency of layers and the overlay of materials (like plaster, cement or paper) to create textures and depth in her compositions. She also applies metallic colors or pigments to include the light changing reflections in her pieces, adapting it to different techniques, mostly mixed media and collage on canvas or paper.
